Trading can lose you money

Trading foreign exchange, metals, indices, cryptocurrencies and other instruments, especially with leverage and through CFDs, carries a high risk of loss. You can lose all of the money in your account, and with some brokers more than you deposit. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.

Simulated results are not real results

Every return, drawdown and chart on qkt Labs comes from backtests on historical tick data. Even a careful simulation differs from live trading: fills, spreads, slippage and swap change with market conditions and between brokers; a pattern that held in the past can stop working; and a strategy picked from many candidates can look better than it is. The out-of-sample, walk-forward and deflated Sharpe figures exist to show these risks, not to remove them.

Hypothetical performance

Hypothetical or simulated performance has inherent limits. Unlike an actual record, it does not represent actual trading. It was produced with the benefit of hindsight, and no representation is made that any account will or is likely to achieve results similar to those shown. Markets, brokers and your own costs differ from the test.

Costs differ by broker

Results use a stated cost model: commission, spread, slippage and swap taken from a reference broker. Your broker’s costs, execution speed and trading hours may be worse, which can turn a profitable test into a losing account.

Drawdowns are part of the result

Listings may include strategies with drawdowns of up to 50% of the account. A drawdown shown in testing is not the worst that can happen live. Size your positions for the drawdown you can live with, not for the return you hope for.

Software and connections fail

Running a strategy live depends on your computer or VPS, the qkt engine, the MetaTrader 5 terminal, your internet connection and your broker. Any of them can fail, disconnect or behave unexpectedly. Monitor live trading, and test on a demo account first.
